Lol nothing says we are afraid of the working class like banning subreddits on suppressed news they don’t want us to see. I came here bc I got a warning on my account for liking a comment that said “Luigi”. My alt account got banned for sharing the DOGE email list that is public info. Fuck Reddit. I’m done.
got banned for telling a trump supporter to go fuck himself after he joked about the 51st state among other things, im canadian. also i upvoted luigi content and got permanently banned. not just one email, but all connected emails as well.
im out. that place is a censored shithole. fuck reddit. i hope they ban all the real ones so they come here.
Although there are a lot of sane and humane people on reddit, it is ultimately part of the machine now. It cannot be trusted to remain unbiased any longer.
I don’t care. Reddit banned me like 4 years ago for stating that “If you have the opportunity to punch a Nazi, you should always punch the Nazi.”
iNcItInG vIoLeNcE
I call it self defense. 🤷🏻♂️
I narrowly missed out on a ban for saying that any Nazi deserves to get slapped. Apparently that’s “encouraging violence”
Reddit is compromised.
I’m done as well. Fuck them.
Man the censorship is just vile too. It’s not like “Oh this incites violence” it’s “anything and everything that we and our shareholders don’t agree on is gone”.
Worst part is if any other countries went after them then they would just restrict it to US news.
Classic capitalist gotcha. Turns out that prioritizing shareholders (a 3rd party leech entity unrelated to the operations or customers) is always going to lead to censorship. Like the generic “shareholder” needs stable status quo to figure out how to exploit the poors in most efficient way and violent revolt doesn’t guarantee a higher than inflation result. Modern capitalism in America is straight up a mental disorder similar to hoarding. You don’t need the money nor the stock but you’re willing to fuck over literally thousands of people for a minor gain. It should be studied … but studying this doesn’t help the bottom line so fuck any progress it’s death and destruction for %% daily return. Fuck all this
They are Streisand effecting the information though because the more they censor, the more people will talk about it. There’s already been a news article published by The Verge. It’s going to backfire so badly lmao.
Seeing that non-right sided medias are picking this up is good. Hopefully it builds more traction and if they can even say something as simple as “Lemmy is an alternative” we can see healthy growth. I know r/conservative is probably loving it but in the last month I’ve seen them advocate for more violence than any other subreddits. Yet they remain free and open. Gotta love how contradicting reddit has become since the blackout.
not contradicting at all if you consider them as part of the putin/musk propaganda apparatus
Yep, I got a frikking lifetime IP ban a few months back for saying “Fuck Elon Musk all the way to hell” in r/politics - apparently some fanboy decided that was “inciting violence”. Fuck Reddit, happy to be part of Lemmy.
I got an IP ban for sharing the list of DOGE employees. 11 minutes after my 10 year cake day. I continue to see people share the list of names. That’s what led me here.
Aren’t their names a matter of public record anyway?? Ridiculous - and for my part, I’ve seen people post a lot worse things than “Fuck Elon Musk all the way to hell” and somehow they’re not banned.
Yeah. I don’t see how it’s doxxing when it’s public record
I lost my account of 12 years when I quoted some random misogynist for calling a woman a slur, the mod or automod banned me for making the quote (which I did so he couldn’t edit his message and I simultaneously reported him anyway) I figured it was just a simple mistake, but they didn’t listen to my appeal, I tried to talk to other mods and they were all unimaginably obtuse assholes, so I got banned from that particular subreddit that I was a well-liked regular contributor on. To keep talking to the people I knew there I used an alt account for a while and then got lifetime IP banned for ban-evasion.
It’s not that hard to make a new account and erase your cookies and reset your modem, etc etc. But now they have more and more tricks for removing humans, like shadowbanning anyone who ever says anything contentious, which is what they really want, completely synthetic communities of bots talking about whatever narrative they want to seed into the public narrative.
I estimate about 1/4 to half the users on the larger communities are all AI/bots. Once you realize it and look at all the posts and conversations in this framing you realize how utterly twisted and insidious our tech oligarchy has really become. They seem very human, they even make populist-sounding, human arguments and follow popular sentiment, which makes their narratives and concessions stand out.
The internet isn’t just dead, it’s a reanimated corpse cursed to follow the will of its lich-lords.
The internet isn’t just dead, it’s a reanimated corpse cursed to follow the will of its lich-lords.
I think you nailed it.
The real reason you got reported is they don’t want anyone other than shills in that subreddit
Being a reddit user is like being in an abusive relationship.
I received an IP ban for sharing the public list of DOGE employees, 11 minutes into my 10 year cake day.
Yeah, I got a 7-day ban for ‘encouraging violence’, when all I said was that Luigi didn’t deserve to go to jail for what he did. I appealed, my account was restored, but not before I being (as of now, I literally just noticed this) permanently-banned for ‘multiple, repeated violations of Reddit’s Content Policy on your other account(s).’ I have had only one account on Reddit for 14 years, I don’t even make throwaways, so it seems like they’re really scraping for excuses. What’s hilarious is that my account was reinstated 3 hours ago from the appeal for teh temp-ban, but the perma-ban came 11 hours ago, so they perma-banned me then lifted the temp-ban. Thanks, guys. :P I’m going to appeal it just to see what their response is, but fuck 'em.
I’ve stopped fighting for my shadow-banned account on Reddit. It’s a month old now, they’ve been ignoring it. And for weeks I’ve only checked reddit but never bothered logging in and never bother trying to fight anymore. I’ve been on Reddit as far back as, I want to say, 2012? And I’ve been banned over 30+ times under many alts, getting into fights with some of the dumbest fuckers on Reddit possible. But there also were times where I had tried partaking in positive manners, but the Reddit ecosystem just wasn’t having it with people like that.
I’ve been seeing so many honest people make innocent posts and just getting fucked with. And those people are finding themselves banned as well, not just me. So it’s just simply not worth it anymore trying with a system like that, that’s been building itself into it’s own authoritarian atmosphere.
Same, but at least you can have an account? I got the perma for the stupidest reason possible and I can’t use the site. Somehow the system always figures out it’s me. I would probably have to get a new computer IP and phone.
For context I have (had) an alt account that was banned from r/news years ago. I read the frontpage exclusively. r/news shows up there a lot. I forgot about this alt account and commented there. Then a few months after that ban I did the same thing.
I am clearly a despicable human being and shouldn’t be allowed to use the only universal forum humans currently have.
I like interactivity and I like having to talk around in some of the communities there. I get impulses to say something on some posts and while I can, I know it won’t ever be seen and won’t have that engagement. To me, it’s like what’s the point? I should actually now go and delete the account.
Yeah if you’re finding yourself instantly banned on sight, it’s an IP thing. Admins would see that. They won’t prevent you from registering although if that was possible, they would totally have done that many times over by now.
I’ve only managed to ban evade because I’ve had my IP changed a few times due to moving IRL, I’ve had to get creative with usernames so they don’t piece two and two together and I’ve had to use e-mails that I thought wouldn’t trip on their radar like using ProtonMail. By this point after so many chances, it is totally an IP thing. VPN is an option but I’m too lazy for that.
VPN. Or just use Lemmy.
Doesn’t work. They shadow ban your new account until they figure out where you are.
https://www.reddit.com/r/suppressed_news/
It’s Suppressed_News? Not SuppressedNews afaik?
I just got my 3 day ban under bullshit reasons. Reddit is now a place of tyranny and fascism.
Well… that’s just going to be most American sites going forward. That’s why ultimately platforms like Lemmy are so important. What a lot of people here in the States don’t realize is that this is a war on information.
this is a war on information
I think most people understand that by this point. It’s been a war on information since the internet was created, even 80 years ago people like Goebbels understood the value of constricting information flow.
and russia understanding both mis and disinformation.
I was still using it for researching stuff (mostly via the Kagi forum search) - but it’s the only website that does not work with MullvadVPN on. Getting tired of having to deactivate it. By now Mastodon and Lemmy easily satisfy my needs for tech news/discussions.
The only thing Lemmy doesn’t have that Reddit does is an enormous collection of discussions about technical solutions. I can not think of another way to look for answers to tech questions that doesn’t send me straight to SEO crap trying to sell me a solution. No I don’t want to pay for a subscription to your crappy software to make cron jobs that I’ll just have to debug anyway. I want to learn what flag I put in wrong so it’ll work in the first place.
If it’s not working with your VPN, try switching to the old.reddit.com subdomain. They randomly block me sometimes using ProtonVPN, but every time I use the old site, it works fine for some reason. This also prevents Reddit blocking any browser that blocks cookies.
I also have a bookmarklet you can put in your bookmarks bar to automatically convert normal reddit links into old.reddit.com ones, should this work in your case.
javascript:(function() { var currentUrl = window.location.href; var newUrl = currentUrl.replace(/^https:\/\/www\.reddit\.com/, 'https://old.reddit.com/'); window.location.href = newUrl; })();
You can also try either a 3rd-party or locally-hosted instance of libreddit, and replace the
https://old.reddit.com/
link in the bookmarklet with the URL (and if self-hosted, port) of the libreddit instance you want to use.The instance wouldn’t be protected by your VPN, (if self-hosting, would need to be split-tunneled or on a different device like a Raspberry Pi not connected through your VPN) but it’s easier than constantly disabling and re-enabling your VPN for your whole device.
I just got banned for saying starlink to be not trusted as coms for military ops.
I have a feeling someone from right wing has bought a huge stake and they have exerted pressure on the management to mute all anti establishment discussions.
Everytime they just use the rule: comment should be civil, which is freaking left to their interpretation. Below is what I wrote.
I would not use starlink for any of my coms. These mofos may have given Russia intercept ability and location tracking.
always follow the money brotha.
Its pretty preposterous to be banned for saying “kill all Nazi’s but six” on a site where the CEO used to moderate r/jailbait and the literally racist eugenics loving subreddits r/spacedicks and r/the_donald used to exist.
Damn Reddit you really let yourself go
