  • Videos without audio? Imgur can handle mp4s and imgur links autoplay in the Lemmy apps ive used (Boost and Voyager)

Videos with audio, well really YT is the best place, pretty much anybody who cares about YT tracking/ads/views will have processes/plugins in place to handle YT links. Like there are plugins that will automatically modify a YT link to a designated invidious instance or whatever

If you really really don’t want to upload to YT, a Peertube instance is your best bet, unfortunately just don’t expect it to be particularly…fast. Every Peertube video I’ve tried to watch buffered every 10-30 seconds, but I don’t blame them, video is very intense, expensive and difficult to handle compared to every other media type

The W3C (The body that dictates web standards) specification, that describes what browser engines should handle, like CSS features, HTML5 etc and how is equivalent to thousands of pages long and there are huge standards to implement.

HTML5 is a big thing to implement, so is CSS and the JavaScript engine and probably even more technologies I’m forgetting

And that’s just implementation, it takes even more work to get them running well enough for the average end-user

Ladybird has been working on their from scratch engine for ~5 years iirc and they’re not planning to even have the first alpha out until next year lol

  • It’s a monumental effort really, building a browser engine from scratch and taking it to daily driver usable is probably among the most difficult programming challenges. It’s way easier to build a new Linux kernel from scratch than a browser engine lmao

Even Microshit tried and gave up because it was so hard

  • Yes and no, this topic comes up fairly frequently, and generally…nobody knows the best solution forward LMAO

piefed.social is a Lemmy “competitor” and is intended to be fully interoperable, but in practice it hasn’t matured yet and it’s interoperability with the Lemmy-verse is decent but has its quirks

But a big thing there is they have a multi sub type feature to combine comms like that

But some people also like the multiple comms, because they can have different viewpoints and culture.

Like lemmy.ml is a huge Tankie instance and their c/memes comms moderation skew towards censoring of comments and posts critical of Russia/China/NK and allows political memes

Where as c/meme on .world have banished most political memes directing them to [email protected] instead

  • Edelman is a global communications firm that partners with businesses and organizations to evolve, promote and protect their brands and reputations.

Sounds like they don’t care about the truth, only making whatever their clients want to be “presentable”/accepted and how much they get paid for it.

Clearly the people of China trust their government and since you have yet to provide a source explaining how their government is organized we can only go with my source which clearly indicated that there is direct democracy

And you’re operating without understanding the historical reasons for it. For the Chinese people the CCP is leagues better than what came before. What came before the CCP was…quite bad. So from their POV and objectively, yes the CCP is pretty decent for the Chinese people as they would sacrifice things like freedom of speech because of the stability the CCP provides.

But what’s good for them does not automatically translate to good for the world, especially in countries where basic human rights have been somewhat enjoyed to varying degrees

  • Tankies are authoritarian communists, basically places like Russia and China can do no wrong in their eyes no matter how well supported said fact is. They don’t even recognize they nor NK are dictatorships. Basically if you say anything negative about those governments on .ml it’ll get removed and you possibly banned

.ml is part of the Triad of instances that they hide out in, the others hex and grad are much more on your face about it, but .ml is more subtle about it tending to just remove non-Tankie view points via mod/admin action and a lot of the official support comms are on there as well because the main devs are also Tankies.

I actually have to use this account to talk about them now to new users now because this accounts instance defed’s from them, otherwise they’ll just brigade posts and comments about them LMAO my main is @[email protected]

Reddit also has tankies, but there was just so many other users they kinda disappeared into the sea lol

Yea that’s what [email protected] is, some of it is serious documentation work, some venting and a couple memes

Sorry to just dump this on you, but encountering a Tankie without warning is rather…jarring lmao
