How to isolate your country:

Never said it was the fault of the creators, I love the idea of Linux and wish it was the mainstream desktop OS, then none of these issues would really exist. I only have issue with people pretending it’s so simple to change to it from Windows, which is just almost never true.

I have an Nvidia card because it was the best option for me at the time I bought it, Valve’s Proton hadn’t matured enough for Linux to even be considered for gaming at that time (other Linux quirks aside). As much as I support FOSS, I love playing a variety of games with friends and that just wasn’t going to be feasible with Linux 5-6 years ago. I wasn’t going to dual-boot when I would end up spending most of my time in Windows anyway and the rest of my time troubleshooting Linux.

Now AMD has released a good card, Proton is really good and Linux has progressed further to where I can seriously consider it. With Windows 10 support ending, I am very likely to jump ship.

I have Nvidia yeah and quickly learnt that I wasn’t going to get it working smoothly and went back to Windows. If I manage to get a well priced 9070XT, then I will try Linux again.

I hate the “stop using windows” comments, when it’s quite impossible to have the same experience without specific hardware and setups.

Can I run multi-monitor high refresh rates without the desktop slugging? Last time I seriously tried switching to Linux, this seemingly simple setup in 2024 was too much for it to handle.

But they are not really Geoguessr alternatives in the same way Geotastic is, with all the community features, I also like the transparency Geotastic has with running costs, I can donate to cover my own usage without overspending for profiteering like is the case with Geoguessr now.

Yeah, same with OSRS, you buy a bond which you can turn into 1 week membership, or trade it other players. Which is honestly fine, it lets people get membership without spending real money, but I’d rather none of the better/fairer systems exist if it means removing the egregious ones. Really we just want to target systems that make you buy a virtual currency to just sell you microtransactions, but how do you write legislation for that? We are talking about anything that has real monetary value, if you cannot obtain it through real money, then it’s not in the discussion. Of course it opens a whole new problem, where they could sell “boosts” to earning virtual currency etc. So that would have to be taken into account with the legislation.

Store credit lets them manipulate you. They can say the minimum top up is $5. Then put the cheapest items at $3. Want two $3 items? You have to deposit at least $10! It goes on and on.

No. Just make it so you add items to a cart and purchase their exact value with real money, no in between, no scummy tactics.

They can give items for free instead. Without currency they cant give you 90% of what you need and force you to overpay for extra.

Sure sales on mobile… (sounds like Apple and Google would get some needed pressure to improve this area) but thats another problem, none of these purchases should be expensive enough to even warrant needing a sale in the first place.

The real reason they want in game currency is not any of these, it’s for the deception factor, avoiding refunds, upselling etc

In-game purchases should display the exact cost in the local currency. In-game currency should be completely banned.

That’s how it is unfortunately. The best way to get people on Matrix would be by communities hosting on Matrix and advertising that actively in their Discord guilds. Providing simple instructions to pick a client and sign up. Show people they can customise how they like etc, that will help, people love shiny things. Once you have people signed up and using the platform, then they can figure out the federation by being exposed to it.
