  • I don’t know why but some leftists will just find the dumbest fucking hills to die on, while completely ignoring real causes that actually move agendas forward.

Where is this energy in our unions and community groups? Where are these people in town halls and school board meetings? Where are the canvassers, the volunteers, the organizers?

Stop burning cars and start doing some of the damned work you cowards. Invest in your community and show people you’re helpful and trustworthy instead of psychotic and destructive.

  • We are doing a review of all of our software to prep for Windows 11 right now. It’s not going nearly as well as you think because not all software is consumer-grade.

Not too long ago a bunch of our scientific devices got knocked out by Microsoft fixing an old serial bug. Turns out all the software to run these was built to workaround the bug and quite a few of these items are long since unsupported (or the vendor is gone). Some of these are tens of thousands of dollars, we can’t just replace these on a whim.

  • You could petition for adoption of an EV plug that isn’t Tesla’s. You could ask to have the Tesla supercharger network be declared anti-competitive and force Musk to divest. Bonus points if you can convince people it should be a public good.

Lots of moves could be made. Instead you advocate for bashing the fash by… Burning cars owned by workers? And somehow you fail to see how this is not just morally and logically wrong, it also harms the view of leftists in the eyes of the public?

Are you a real person or do you glow?

  • I don’t own one, but when I was considering which EV to buy they were on the list. I could have easily been just another Tesla owner, now getting their car burnt to a crisp or getting spray painted with Nazi symbols.

I am a unpaid union executive. I volunteer my time to groups like a Right-to-Repair advocacy organization. If the shitheads burning cars could get this motivated about these or other issues, we’d be knocking problems over like dominoes. Instead “activism” for a lot of people now means complaining on the internet and destroying the property of workers.

Frankly people need to take that type of activism and fuck right off with it. Do some real work or go home and let the adults figure it out.

  • Read this thread man. People have become fucking deranged, cheering on destroying the property of people who likely had no reason to believe they’d be making car payments to a Nazi.

Frankly if you’re not out canvassing for politicians you support or helping organize a union or something but you can find the time to cheer on the destruction of what is likely a worker’s property, you need to get a grip.

  • I live in the Ottawa region and the attitude around here is simply that Trump handed the Liberals the win. I don’t think this election is unsalvageable for the Conservatives (and frankly I think it’s dangerous to think so) but they’ve got a mountain to climb, that’s for sure.

Ontario’s demographic in Toronto and Ottawa could be summed up as “urban conservative”. Interestingly many of them think of themselves as left-wing or progressive and think the same of the Liberals. The reality is very different: they view public servants, the poor, and any other right-wing punching bags as undesirables, they protest any efforts to get housing built, and they even harass striking workers. But hey they’re down with “the gays” so they’re forward thinking right?

  • You Americans being so dismissive of other people is exactly how this happened in the first place.

Remember when people were calling out how gender affirming care policies had gone too far and those people were written off as bigots? Then it turned out that a bunch of ideologues had hijacked the processes in several countries and were issuing puberty blockers and hormones with barely any consultation, then suppressed evidence that unchecked use of puberty blockers and hormones was actively harming people?

Remember when it turned out that droplet theory was bullshit and cloth masks don’t actually block COVID but we kept trucking along like they did?

Remember when Democrats told people facing hard times that the economy was doing great, even as the number of homeless was shooting up and inflation was going wild?

These and others are the kinds of lies that make people lose trust in authorities. Doubling down on them only made it worse. And before someone chimes in with a list of Republican / right-wing versions of this: yes I know they do the same thing, but telling people that as if that makes what “your side” did any better is stupid. The idea is to tell them about the lies on both sides so that they realize you’re not just another tribal moron. Tell the truth, gain some trust, and maybe you’ll see you share more in common than you’ve been lead to believe.
